THE BLESSING                     

•The priest kisses the  altar,  and at the word "Pater",  turns toward the        
people,  blesses them,  saying:                           

P:  Benedicat vos omnipotens      	P: May almighty God,  the 

Deus,  Pater,  et Filius `†´,     		Father,  and the Son `†´,  and 

et Spiritus Sanctus.              		the Holy Ghost,  bless you.

S:  Amen.                         		S: Amen.

THE LAST GOSPEL

Now said in full at the altar, the Last Gospel was once a private prayer the priest would recite to himself as he went from the altar to the sacristy. Although most priests now it by heart, there is always a card with the text in place.

During certain feasts, there may be a special Last Gospel but usually it will be the first fourteen verses from the Gospel of Saint John.

              
•The priest now goes to the Gospel side of the altar;  he  makes the sign of the
cross, first upon the altar,  and then upon his forehead,  lips, and heart,  and reads 
the Last Gospel:                           

P:  Dominus vobiscum.             		P: The Lord be with you.

S:  Et cum spiritu tue.           		S: And with thy spirit.

P:  Initium sancti Evangelii      		P: The beginning of the holy 

secundum Joannem.                 		Gospel,  according to St. John. 

S:  Gloria tibi Domine.           		S: Glory be to Thee,  O Lord.

                                  
P:  In prinicipio erat Verbum,    		P:  In the beginning was the 

et Verbum erat apud Deum,  et     	Word, and the Word was with

Patre,  plenum gratiae et         		of the only begotten of the 

veritatis.                        		Father, full of grace and truth.

 PRAYERS AFTER LOW MASS 
           
•After Low Mass,  the priest kneeling at the altar steps, says with the 
people the  prayers which follow:   

AVE MARIA

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus  	Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord 

tecum.  Benedicta tu in           		is with thee.  Blessed art thou 

mulieribus, et benedictus fructus 	amongst women, and blessed is the 

ventris tui, Jesus.  Sancta       		fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, 

Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis   		Mother of God, pray for us sinners, 

peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora    		now, and at the hour 

mortis nostrae. Amen.             		of our death.  Amen.

SALVE REGINA

                     

Salve Regina, Mater               		Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, 

misericordiae.  Vita, dulcedo,    		our life, our sweetness, and our 

et spes nostra, salve.  Ad te     		hope!  To thee do we cry, poor 

clamamus exsules filii Hevae.  Ad 	banished children of Eve, to thee 

te Suspiramus, gementes et        	do we send up our sighs, mourning

SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

Sancte Michael Archangele,        	St. Michael, the archangel, 

defende nos in praelio.  Contra   		defend us in battle.  Be our 

nequitiam et insidias diaboli     		protection against the malice and

esto praesidium.  Imperet illi    		snares of the devil.  We humbly
